Typically every TV series will try to keep the suspense of what will happen in the next episode after the summer break, with a cliff hanger. It almost seems that even race drivers and teams are copying this for their own season break.
During the last race of DTM at the Red Bull Ring it rained heavily, and after a big fight on track between some Audi and Mercedes cars, the instruction was given to the Audi driver to ‘ Push them off the track’. So in the next corner, with a fake ‘sorry-I-braked-too-late’ or as I call it 'Summer break' action the Audi driver pushed both Mercedes Benz cars out and in the gravel. That’s the first time I am aware of a clear instruction for us to hear on TV to take out competitors. Mind you, this is a German racing series of good standard. So there is your first cliff hanger. What will happen after the summer break, will the Merc’s look for some payback-time?
In Formula 1 we had an exciting Hungarian GP, where the two Mercedes drivers couldn’t deliver on the expected performances. Both Ferrari and Red Bull showed their improved race pace during this race and it will have shocked the Merc’s team. And don’t forget the race before that where the two Williams drivers had a rocket start, and passed both Hamilton and Rosberg before the first corner. So I’m looking forward to the next episode of the Formula 1 season. Watch the next episode: ‘Will the Mercedes team recover and take the lead again, or do we have new front runners?”
And then we also had another exciting result with Max Verstappen. The youngest F1 driver ever, scored a 4th place in Hungary. This is his best and highest score so far. WoW what an achievement. He had a poor start, but recovered from it. He did very consistent lap times and made the right race strategy decisions. And outside of the TV directors eye view, he climbed the ranks to the 4th place. Now that the worst of the Renault engines troubles seem to be solved, the second half of the season can bring even more ‘best results ever’. And the best thing is, for this episode I will travel to the best track in the world, Spa-Francorchamps, and see for myself how it will unfold. I'm really lokking forward to real-life F1 racing. I’m already keeping my fingers crossed for nice weather, although I also know that some raindrops will help to have a level playfield, which should help Max.
Have a great summer and don't Summer break too late!
